Finite Temperature Time-Dependent Effective Theory For The Goldstone Field In A BCS-Type Superfluid
نویسندگان
چکیده
We extend to finite temperature the time-dependent effective theory for the Goldstone field (the phase of the pair field) θ which is appropriate for a superfluid containing one species of fermions with s-wave interactions, described by the BCS Lagrangian. We show that, when Landau damping is neglected, the effective theory can be written as a local time-dependent non-linear Schrödinger Lagrangian (TDNLSL) which preserves the Galilean invariance of the zero temperature effective theory and is identified with the superfluid component. We then calculate the relevant Landau terms which are non-local and which destroy the Galilean invariance. We show that the retarded θ-propagator (in momentum space) can be well represented by two poles in the lower-half frequency plane, describing damping with a predicted temperature, frequency and momentum dependence. It is argued that the real parts of the Landau terms can be approximately interpreted as contributing to the normal fluid component. Finite Temperature Time-Dependent Effective Theory For The Goldstone Field In A BCS Superconductor

We show that, when Landau damping is neglected, the effective theory can be written as a local time-dependent nonlinear Schrödinger Lagrangian (TDNLSL) which...
متن کاملGoldstone and Higgs Hydrodynamics in the BCS–BEC Crossover
We discuss the derivation of a low-energy effective field theory of phase (Goldstone) and amplitude (Higgs) modes of the pairing field from a microscopic theory of attractive fermions. The coupled equations for Goldstone and Higgs fields are critically analyzed in the Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer (BCS)-to-Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) crossover—both in three spatial dimensions and in two spatial ...
متن کاملS ep 2 00 6 Mean - Field vs Monte - Carlo equation of state for the expansion of a Fermi superfluid in the BCS - BEC crossover
The equation of state (EOS) of a Fermi superfluid is investigated in the BCS-BEC crossover at zero temperature. We discuss the EOS based on Monte-Carlo (MC) data and asymptotic expansions and the EOS derived from the extended BCS (EBCS) mean-field theory. Then we introduce a time-dependent density functional, based on the bulk EOS and Landau’s superfluid hydrodynamics with a von Weizsäcker-type...
متن کاملBroken U(1) gauge symmetry and excitations in Bose liquids
We derive the low-energy effective field theory at finite temperature of Bose condensed liquids (e.g., superfluid 4He) directly from the breakdown of the global gauge symmetry U(1). The theory can immediately yield the Landau quantum hydrodynamics. The Bogoliubov type spectrum of low-energy collective excitations is given in the zeroth order of this theory and the momentum and temperature depen...
متن کاملBCS-BEC crossover at finite temperature for superfluid trapped Fermi atoms.
We consider the BCS-BEC (Bose-Einstein-condensate) crossover for a system of trapped Fermi atoms at finite temperature, both below and above the superfluid critical temperature, by including fluctuations beyond mean field. We determine the superfluid critical temperature and the pair-breaking temperature as functions of the attractive interaction between Fermi atoms, from the weak- to the stron...
